 Landscape Designer and Sales

Position Summary: The Designer is responsible for securing new customers as well as developing methods to reach new potential clients.  As Landscape Designer, you will work closely with high-end residential clients to develop creative and comprehensive landscape plans, that suit their unique individual needs as well as conform to industry standards and practices.  From these plans, the Landscape Designer will develop construction estimates and help oversee the operations team during the project’s installation.  This position should have extensive experience with landscape design principles and installation practices, as well as a working knowledge of Autocad and a horticulture background.  Good communication and organizational skills area a must.

 

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Establish communication with clients over phone or email
  • Schedule meetings with clients and be punctual with arrivals
  • Site analysis and surveying skills are a must. Utilize tools to measure and photograph sites as well as surveying tools such as Zip Levels to identify grading and drainage needs
  • Efficiently create base maps and landscape plans in Autocad utilizing office standard graphic elements and line weights
  • Create client job folders and keep project information organized and up to date
  • Develop relationships with vendors and stay current with industry products and techniques
  • Develop detailed and precise construction estimates that will be used to install projects and perform job costing from
  • Communicate customer needs and requests to installation team
  • Manage all change orders on projects and ensure quality job integrity and adherence
  • Communicate labor and material budgets to operations team and manage production on jobs
  • Track all sales and perform billing on reporting on all jobs completed throughout the year

Job Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent learning experience
  • Degree in landscape horticulture, or related field
  • Insurable driving record (no DUI’s or reckless driving in past 5 years)
  • Experience installing landscape projects in the field

  • Strong knowledge in the following software: Excel, Word, Outlook, Autocad, Sketchup

 Plant Buyer

Primary Position Summary: The first phase of this position will be to develop a comprehensive plant buying process that integrates the needs of the retail nursery as well as the landscape installation division. This position will deal with primarily shrubs, perennials, and trees. It will be essential to communicate closely with the landscape sales/operations team as well as the garden center management. The second phase of this position will be to manage the operations of the offsite nursery/staging area. This includes developing a team of individuals that will work in a support role to ultimately achieve the responsibilities and goals of this department. The integral purpose of this position is to innovate methods and procedures that will maximize cost containment and profit potential of live goods.

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
• Procure plant material in a timely manner while adhering to
budgets and quality guidelines
• Establish relationships with plant growers and material
vendors in order to identify competitive pricing and highest
quality material.
• Stay up to date with regional/seasonal availabilities for
different varieties of landscape plants
• Maintain accurate tracking of plant materials by quantity and
location. (i.e. correct inventory of plants as well as
accurate identification of where plants are going to be used
and or needed.)
• Create a system to stage and mark plants for landscape
projects. Your team shall stage plants for projects prior to
expected installation date when possible.
• Ensure the efficient flow of plant material to the proper job
site as well as the retail nursery
• Detailed communication of material availability and pricing
with landscape team and nursery management
• Attend all weekly landscape division planning meetings as well
as weekly garden center/nursery meetings.
• Maintain viability and health of all purchased and stored
plant material

Responsibilities will include assisting the Projects Director and General Manager in managing the movement of current projects as well as projects in the estimating phase.   A systematic understanding of data organization and word processing, excel and general computer skills is an essential function. Commercial Landscape and Irrigation Estimator/Project Manager

The Commercial Landscape & Irrigation Estimator will develop competitive project bids and work closely with the key stakeholders throughout the estimating process. This position is responsible for meeting with contractors and clients, compiling information and details on job specifications and landscape drawings, and creating a bid proposal that will both delight the client and produce a profitable result. This position must have a detailed understanding of landscape and irrigation installation practices to ensure sufficient time and resources are projected to profitably complete work. The dynamic purpose of this position is to revolutionize methods and procedures that will maximize cost containment and profit potential of the commercial landscape and irrigation department.

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
• Consolidate and summarize large amounts of information to
produce a competitive bid package.

• Organize bid pre-qualification information; develop and submit
RFIs; work with architects to ensure adequate knowledge of
project scope; and incorporate value-engineering ideas, as
requested.

• Must be able to meet deadlines for RFIs, project bids and
budgeting; must meet deadlines for submitting information to
Operations managers and Accounting.

• Must understand and clarify for each project; contract lingo;
botanical names; and commercial irrigation whole goods, parts
and fittings.

• Consistently follow-up on submitted bids and budgets with
general contractors and clients.

• Maintain current date plan sets for estimating and project
installation; keeping accurate historical documentation.

• Communicate accurate, timely and detailed information to
Operations team, subcontractors, vendors and clients.

• Maintain professional working relationships with key
stakeholders; architects, construction managers, property
managers and brokers to ensure success on projects.

• Negotiate with and work in collaboration with subcontractors
and material suppliers to maintain solid working
relationships, competitive pricing, and awareness of
availability and quality of materials. Demonstrate creativity
and resourcefulness with subcontractors and suppliers.

• Prepare subcontractor bid package for each project; proactive
collection of pricing information and contract negotiations
with subcontractors.

• Maintain knowledge base on regional and seasonal
availabilities for different varieties of landscape plants.

• Identify angles and gaps to increase efficiencies, and
negotiate material quotes with vendors to increase project bid
profitability.

• Coordinate and communicate subcontractor schedules to ensure
adequate project coverage.

• Solicit and maintain good communication with subcontractors
and vendors throughout projects.

• Work closely with material supply chain vendors and the
Accounting Department to thoroughly understand materials,
labor, and overhead rates that form the basis for bid
compilation and generating profit.

• Review drawings and job costs with Project Management team;
highlight areas of concern, and subcontractors and material
vendors that still need attention.

• Communicate project addenda’s and other bid information to
Operations management team in a timely manner. Goal is 100% of
awarded projects turned over within 24 hours of notification.

• Complete project job number request form with all pertinent
information within 24 hours of contract signing.

• Consolidate and maintain all bid information in software
tracking system; all change orders, actual materials and
labor, and other project specifics.

• Identify future projects to bid through various construction
bid websites, invitations from clients and general
contractors, and other project leads generated.

• Analyze bids lost to identify areas where costs could have
been reduced, improving future bid success thus building
continuous improvement into the project estimation process.

• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external
clients.

End of Projects Coordinator
